Do we document or define the items in Lessons that indicate progress or completeness anywhere -?

Hi David and All:)

Do you see the use of icons like this as a way around the absence of a
dashboard? We've also had some attempts at ways around indicating to people
where they are presently in a course and the order in which to do things.

Not sure if 'in progress' in lessons might mean extra admin? For example, a
student has completed an assignment or activity and if you haven't logged
it yet manually they don't get a tick they email you and say it's still
showing the hourglass, has the system accepted my work etc.

I'm attaching screenshots of some things we've done to indicate where
people are now in a course: a locating image that makes the order of
lessons on the side visual, putting the lesson for the current week towards
to top, etc. (if you replicate the lesson tool rather than using sub-pages).

For interest, we renamed 'Gradebook' to 'Dashboard' and use a 0 or 1 for
participants to track their course activity. The activities happen mostly
in the forum and then we go to Forums > Statistics and Grading > Statistics
and Grading by Topic and then click through each person after selecting a
topic (each week is a forum in Forums and activities are topics).

I am interested to learn more about creative things folks are doing with
tools to get around particular things or to 'invent' features by
appropriating particular tools for their own purposes.

I saw there was a topic earlier about open badges, also keen on finding out
more about whether this is possible in Sakai. Or to have some digital
badges within a course and an open badge for course completion. This is for
courses that are for professional development and not accredited formally,
so the open badge is for recognition additional to a printed certificate.

Has anyone tried using digital badges in a more social way (participants
nominate others for a badge or award a badge) rather than top down (awarded
by instructor)? Sakai or other spaces.

Have a great day all:)
Nicola
